🐻 Cal Bears in the Desert
Year in Review 2025 — December 2025
A Message from Chapter Leadership
As we close out 2025, we are reminded that Cal Bears in the Desert is powered by alumni who show up, students who inspire us, families who support one another, and volunteers who believe in giving back.
This year reaffirmed the importance of community, mentorship, and staying connected to our Cal roots, no matter how far we are from campus.
Thank you for your time, energy, and dedication. Whether you attended an event, mentored a student, represented Cal in the community, or simply stayed connected, your involvement made a meaningful difference.
With gratitude,
Cal Bears in the Desert Chapter Leadership
Kicking off the Year: Annual Campus Dinner
We began the year on February 21, 2025, with our Annual Campus Dinner at the Latinx Student Resource Center. More than 60 students, alumni, and campus representatives gathered for an evening focused on financial aid, academics, and professional development.
Spring Connections: UC Berkeley Spring Reception & Campus Resources Fair
In collaboration with the UC Berkeley Office of Admissions, we hosted Spring Receptions in both the Coachella and Imperial Valleys. Newly admitted students and their families met alumni and university representatives while learning about majors, housing, and financial aid.
Summer Send-Off: Welcoming the Next Generation of Golden Bears
This summer, our chapter partnered with the Cal Alumni Association and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to host the Annual Summer Send-Off in Palm Desert. This cherished tradition continues to be a highlight of our year.
Fall Engagement: College Fairs & Alumni Speakers
During the fall, our alumni proudly represented UC Berkeley at the Coachella Valley College Fair. Special thanks to OneFuture Coachella Valley, the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, and our local school districts for supporting this inspiring event.
We also launched our Coming Home Speaker Series, featuring Angel Max Guerrero during Homecoming Week in October and Amanda Sarkowsky during Big Game Week in November. Their authenticity, leadership, and passion left a lasting impression on students and strengthened connections within our Cal community.
Leadership and Alumni Involvement
- President Rosemary Bautista attended the UC Chicanx Latinx Alumni Association (UC CLAA) Summit, connecting with alumni across the UC system and celebrating community building.
- Vice President Max Ochoa participated in the Donor & Volunteer Appreciation Brunch during Berkeley Homecoming, reconnecting with fellow alumni and celebrating the power of volunteerism.
Fun and Fellowship
From Pride parades to Cal Football viewing parties, our alumni came together to celebrate, network, and build community. A standout moment was Cal’s thrilling 29–26 overtime victory against Louisville, bringing excitement and camaraderie to the desert.
Looking Ahead to 2026 — Stay Connected
As we move into 2026, we are excited to build on this year’s momentum by expanding our speaker series, strengthening mentorship opportunities, and creating even more meaningful ways for alumni to connect, engage, and give back across the Coachella and Imperial Valleys.
