Cal Bears in the Desert 2023 Alumni Database Internship

The Alumni Data Collection and Inventory Project aims to collect and update the Cal Bears in the Desert Alumni Database to increase the Social, Professional, and Networking Opportunities locally, regionally, and at the university campus.

Cal Bears in the Desert, as a Chartered Chapter of the Cal Alumni Association was established in Spring of 2013 to serve the Cal Alumni in the Coachella Valley. The chapter since then has had an increased and notable presence in the Coachella Valley. Increasingly participating in networking opportunities with Alumni, Students, Cal Parents, and Educational Organizations. As an ever-increasing presence, the board assessed the need to capture and consolidate alumni participation and engagement, thus approving the Alumni Data Collection and Inventory Project. The project received generous funding that supported in hiring of the first cohort of three (3) paid interns to assist with the project.

During the eight-week rigorous internship period, the interns review decades-long documents, event debriefs, programs, and sign-in sheets. The internship provided capacity and soft skills training on data gathering, survey development, interviewing best practices, outreach & engagement practices, and presentation skills. Furthermore, the interns left the internship with a reviewed resume and a letter of recommendation detailing their incredible and dedicated summer internship.

In return, Cal Bears in the Desert was provided a comprehensive consolidated record of all alumni who have been engaged since the chapter’s inception and far beyond. A survey went out to over 400 Cal Alumni from the Coachella Valley who are all over the state, country, and the world. Alumni whose graduation date dates back to the 1960s to the most recent 2023 graduates. With over an incredible 40+ different majors/minors. Alumni who enjoyed over 70+ unique undergraduate activities and clubs. Alumni who are now providing advice and words of encouragement to our current students.
